Capstone Reflection

Capstone Reflection

Through the cumulation of my time at Heidelberg and the research I have done, I have come to understand that I know so little about theater. It is almost overwhelming how small my understanding truly is. I have a great grasp on the fundamentals of theater but now I get to enter a more exciting period. I can continue exploring my niche in theater, absurdism, and learn how to make more and more people enjoy these types of shows. Directing Endgame was a struggle at times, but I was able to create a beautiful piece of art that, I felt, honored the writing of Samuel Beckett.

The disconnect that is created between subtext and audience members allows for an uncomfortable feeling in some but humor in others. I want to explore further what people view as comedy vs drama, why do people laugh at certain things and not others? This is where my project has lead my interest to. I want to understand the audience as an entity so that I am able to more effectively tell stories.
